Porting Your Voucher to the Colorado Division of Housing

Effective January 2024, Division of Housing is billing for all port vouchers.

If you are moving to Colorado and want to transfer your housing voucher from your current Public Housing Authority (PHA) to the Division of Housing (DOH), this process is called "porting in." The Division of Housing is a unique PHA because it administers the voucher program across the entire state of Colorado. However, there are other PHAs in Colorado that serve specific cities or counties.

Recommendation: If you know the specific city or county where you plan to live, you may find it more beneficial to port your voucher directly to the PHA that serves that specific jurisdiction. For a list of all PHAs, please consult the HUD website.

Starting the Port In Process

The process begins when a voucher holder notifies their current housing authority (also called their “initial housing authority”) that they want to move to Colorado. The initial housing authority must then forward the following documents to DOH:

  • HUD 52665 Family Portability Information Form
  • HUD 50058 Form
  • Copies of supporting income verification documents
  • Current EIV report
  • Voucher holder’s current voucher (the voucher must not expire before 60 days or the voucher holder will be referred back to their initial housing authority)
  • Family contact information, including a valid phone number and email address

DOH cannot respond to individual voucher holders until we receive the port request from the initial housing authority.

Please allow 10-15 business days for DOH to receive all required documents and follow up with your initial housing authority to find out the status of your paperwork. The process can take up to 60 days.

After DOH receives all required documents, their Portability staff will assign the case and then provide the voucher holder with the contact information for the new housing coordinator.

The housing coordinator will reach out to the voucher holder to schedule an entrance interview/voucher briefing (required). All adult household members, age 18 or older, must attend and bring the following documents to the briefing meeting:

  • Current valid photo identification
  • Birth certificates for all household members
  • Social Security cards for all household members
  • Marriage License, Divorce Decree and/or Court Award Custody Letters, if applicable
  • In addition, the family may be required to provide documentation of their household income.

The family must meet DOH income and criminal standards to be allowed to our program.

Questions or documents related to porting to HCHA can also be emailed to dola_doh_ports@state.co.us.

For current DOH voucher holders interested in porting out (moving out of Colorado) to another housing authority, please contact your assigned housing coordinator.

This form should be used to report problems or issues with this website. Questions pertaining to a program or service provided by DOH should be addressed to contact information located on the specific program pages.
